East Coast: Bel Air Tank, Bel Air, Maryland

Rehabilitation and Repainting of the Interior and Exterior of the 250,000 gallon Steel Elevated Bel Air Tank located in Bel Air, Maryland. 

The rehabilitation project included:

the complete cleaning and repainting of the tank on the interior surfaces and the complete cleaning and repainting of the exterior surfaces with containment. Additional work items included:
- rehabilitation of concrete and sealant
- installation of elastomeric check valve for overflow pipe
- splash pad
- exterior ladders
- ladder safe-climbing devices
- roof safety railing
- roof manhole
- riser safety grade
- clog-resistant roof vent
- sealing of roof-to-shell intersection
- first anniversary evaluation

The existing coatings on the tank exterior contained lead-based pigments. The project specifications prepared by TIC required a Class 2 containment system. Soil samples taken prior to and at the completion of the rehabilitation project verified that the project had not had a negative impact on the soil and surrounding property.

The tank was coated with a two-coat epoxy/polyurethane coating system on the exterior and a three-coat epoxy coating system on the interior surfaces.
